Using Quadlock and mounting it just to the side of the handlebar mount will allow you to position the GPS (or phone, if you use that) just below/to the side of the bike's dash. You'll need a universal adapter for the GPS, but they have cases for various phones that are more secure.

I mounted mine between the handlebar mounts using a setup like this:

In addition to the standard Garmin mount, it consists of:
(1) One BRCOVAN Aluminum Alloy 17mm Ball Handlebar Mount Base for Garmin GPS Mount & Motorcycle Bike Phone Holder:

(2) One Arkon7mm Ball to 4-Hole AMPS Adapter with Tightening Ring:

My Zumo XT comes with a handlebar mount, does your GPS block your view of your instrumentations?

Yeah, I still can see it. I did take the pic a bit forward from where I usually sit, but I still can see the entire instrumentation in normal riding position (with some margin to spare). For reference, I'm about 6' tall, with my bike having a 2014 stock seat.
