T-Rex Center Stand

So the T-Rex center stand came in today. https://www.t-rex-racing.com/2014-2018-Honda-CTX700-CTX700N-Center-Stand-p/n46-14cs.htm Ordered overnight on Thursday, came in Tuesday solid. Stand was well packaged in heavy paper and then completely wrapped in foam. The stand seems quite well built and heavy duty. The powder coat finish is even appears sturdy. Got it all unpacked and set up to install.

Had one hiccup with the installation as I broke the M6 bolt that secured the stopper assembly causing me a trip to Tractor supply for a new one, luckily I have one about 2 miles away there was enough of the bolt sticking through the other side of the bracket on the bike that I was able to spin it out with pliers even if a quarter turn at a time. Once that was sorted the install was very easy and straightforward basically like the video except for that blasted spring. Oh what a bear. Fought that thing for at least 20 minutes in the 95 degree heat then all at once I got the stars aligned and it popped right on. I have never had good luck with springs. The whole thing took about 30-35 minutes with the bulk of that messing with the spring.

Once complete and cleaned up I tested it out. Haven't had a center stand on a bike since the 90's so kinda rusty on the technique but it went up on the stand easy. Just stood on the foot and pulled up on the passenger grab bar and it went right up nice and smooth. Was going to set something up to measure how far the tire is off the ground but I'm fairly confident in my estimate of 3/4 inch. My suspension is bone stock, no mods whatsoever. It is very sturdy on the stand I got fairly aggressive with it pushing it back and forth to test the stability and I'm happy to report it is very stable on the stand I'm comfortable with it. I'm really anal about chain maintenance so this will be a very nice addition even with my auto chain oiler. All in all I'm pleased with the purchase. Let me know if you have any questions be happy to help.

installed my new stand today, bolted on the bike in under 5 minutes, however the spring was challenging. I found it pops right on if you use an old drum brake spring tool with a pipe over the end for more leverage (took me about 40 minutes to figure that part out however). Next problem.. I have to remove my left factory bag to get something to grab hold of to lift the bike. I have factory side bags and a Corbin seat neither leaves any edges to grab. If I take the left bag off I can use the hanger for the bag to lift up. Sort of a PITA. Otherwise the stand looks to be of very good quality.
Try putting a grab strap attached to the bike so you dont have to remove the side bag. Just my 2 cents.

I ride solo, so I removed the rear(passenger) pegs. Then I ran large carabiner through the hole that the mounting pin used to go through. The grab strap idea is good too. I wouldn't leave it on the bike as it could hang down and catch something. Maybe a detachable loop that you wrap around the rear peg mount?
You are right about that, it could get caught on something while riding. I was thinking more about a small and high enough strap that is secured and wont fall off or flap around when driving. I would guess any part of the bike that you can safely lift the bike while putting up the center stand.
My T-rex came in Wednesday and installed it Thursday. It was easy installing it, until I try to install the springs. It took me hours to install trying to figure out how I can get it in place, I have no proper tools to install the spring. After a lot of swearing and cursing, I found an easier way for me to install the spring. I have to use some nylon strings, the one they use to pull wires inside conduits, and made 2 big loops. I put one side of the loop on the end of the spring and the other other side of the loop around my foot, went down the floor and started pulling it with my foot towards the rear of the MC until I can get the spring attached to the center stand. I could have saved a lot of hours and shoulder pain if I had it done it this way. I hope this can help others trying to get their spring attached to the center stand. Be sure to use a strong enough string if you are doing it this way (wear eye protection also).

Sparrow, I'm quoting your post because you are my hero today. We finally had a nice day to do my install out in the crowded and unheated shed. I laid my tools out, watched the T-Rex install video one last time, then dug in. Three full hours later, including coming back inside to reference Sparrows spring solution, the CTX now sports a functioning center stand.

Things to know if you buy a T-Rex...starting and tightening the right hand side will cause one to question the very nature of existence. If the bike is not on a lift, there is no way to see the nut you are trying to thread on the bolt, plus due to the tight space, you can't hold the bolt in place and thread the nut, you need to hold the nut and thread the bolt into it while making sure the washer stays in place. I finally found that I could hold the nut with a needlenose vice grips and turn the bolt with a ratchet. Bad words were used.
Also, everyone is right about the spring. It does not pop right on like the video shows. After many more bad words, I took a break to go in and look at this thread again, remembering something about Sparrow's solution. Back to the shed with a length of paracord I rigged it up and in a few seconds the springs were in place. A real plus for this method is that one can do it while holding their head well back from the likely path of flying things should the cord fail. Sparrow is right...wear safety glasses.

So, I put my tools away and put her up on the stand for the first time. It took some effort as it's been a few decades since I last did it, but once I get the leverage figured out again it will be easier. I already love it.

I am glad it has helped you with this spring install challenge, and hopefully it will help others too.;)
This is a great spring installation tip. Just be sure the bike is secured so it doesn't roll backward while stretching the spring.;)
Very good advice, make sure the bike is secured and it wont move. :)
