I've done quite a bit of research here on the forum (and elsewhere) about seating options.

Based on my needs (I'm very tall with long legs), it appears that my best options are going to be Russell or Seth Laam. My ultimate concern is not cost, but rather, timing.

My first choice would be Russell. They've been in the business forever and have a first-class reputation. The problem is they are quoting a delivery date of June 1st. I'd rather not wait that long since riding season here in Minnesota is pretty short to begin with.

I spoke to Seth today and he seems to be a pretty good guy, but I've read some negative reviews here on him and his non-responsiveness from time to time. He can definitely get a seat to me much earlier than June 1st. And to his credit, he answered on the first ring.

Anyone here have thoughts/opinions in one direction or another on this? (I'm also open to other recommendations if someone has one.)

I had Seth do my seat about three years ago and had a good experience dealing with him. As for the seat itself, it was greatly improved over the stock seat, though it is on the firm side. I wish it was just a bit more comfortable, but to be fair, I don't remember if I gave Seth any specifics about padding. I probably didn't. He does seem to be very willing and able to make whatever modifications you want, so just do your best in trying to figure that out before talking to him. As for Russell seats, I've never tried one, but I know a lot of people swear by them.

I had a Lamm that I'd gotten from another member, who was almost a perfect match for my height and weight. I LOVED that seat. I could ride for 2 hours at a time, no discomfort, and after the break have no hesitation ever of getting back on it again. Couldn't say that about the Corbin I had on another bike. Almost sent Seth my seat for the can am, but found a fellow here in MN that customized it for 400. While I rode it a bit, not enough to start breaking it in. But from what I did ride, I think it's gonna be fine.

Cool! I see you are in Apple Valley … I’m in Woodbury!

I went with Seth. His seat is custom made, and Seth asked me a number of questions to make sure the padding was appropriate for my needs and that I would be completely satisfied with his work. His seat is so totally comfortable for me and absolutely beautiful. Hundreds of proven miles with no discomfort whatsoever. That said, I did not do that much research into Russell Day-Long seats. Since I am totally satisfied, I guess that’s a moot point.

I am 5’6” and have long legs. Hope this helps!

I've decided to modify the gosh awful seat (for me) and will take it to Astech in Marion, Inidana. I will set up an appointment and ride my CTX700dct up there on a warm day so they can get the most accurate fit, based on my needs and body. This company has been doing this for a long time and only 100 miles away and made a V Star 1300 deluxe seat much better for me a few years ago at a great price.Astech Seat | Ride and Leather

I originally got a Corbin seat, was too firm for me. I contacted Seth, and he setup a consult call after I filled out his online form from his site. He got my measurements and asked me what I wanted. He was backed up, but delivered when he said he would (it took a couple months). He did say phone and vmail was best way to reach him, as he doesn't work via email very quickly. I couldn't be happier with my Laam seat. Perfect positioning and so comfortable for both me and anytime my wife rides behind me. If you can wait for Seth's schedule, I'd recommend it. Never tried Russell, so can't speak to that. Happy Seth customer.

I went with Seth Lamm on my seat. He was responsive and delivered the seat in a timely fashion back in 2018'sh. This was excellent service despite the area he is based out of having a "wildfire" to contend with...

I went the Russell Day-Long route, and never regretted it.
Same here, I had two different Corbins on my CTX and ended up building a Russell. I also had Russell build me one for my latest ride, my Kawasaki Drifter 1500. I paid top dollar in each case, and like Woodswoman, had no regrets on my Russells.

Same here. June is just such a long time to wait. The bike is virtually un-rideable for me until I get a seat made.
Did you get a seat yet?
I have a project that I have never been able to finish. Its a used russell seat that has been separated from a BMW pan, which I intended to mount to a CTX700 pan. I have the seat and I the ctx pan.
The seat is a single Russel which is rated for their heavier rider. Of course its a single seat so some other plan for a back seat needs to be considered. This set up will work good for a taller rider.
I've done one other mod on a previous Russel/BMW which is my current seat; wouldn't trade it for the world. Did 800 miles in a day and everything was sore on me exempt my butt.
If you are skilled you can finish this up yourself. If not then a shop can bring these pieces to life. I want $400 plus postage. Pictures to follow.
