Hey there forum. Never been in one of these, but I’m glad it exists. So... this sweet old lady ripped me off, but I’ll get to that. I just recently started riding, something I have always wanted to learn but never had the time. Turns out I decided I was better at buying bikes then passing the riding test... I’ve been through a few now because I’m indecisive. Anyway, my little Brother is a marine at Camp Pendleton, and I told him I’d get him a bike if he re upped on another 4. He did, and he asked for a CTX 700N DCT ABS.

I find a good deal (as I tend to do), but it required me to drive 2 hours away in a uhaul to pick because the woman was more comfortable with that then me just shipping it for $200. I meet two sweet older ladies in a sketchy parking lot. They have a tiny uhaul trailer, I have a big ol box truck (because I’m excessive) with no ramp. So the three of us take hours loading the bike from one uhaul to the other. We bonded... became like family. She texted me a kitten video later that night.

The next day I’m feeling frisky and decide I’ll take her out on the non residential roads... ya know? Like a ‘Big Shot’ biker. I take it for a spin (still terrible at riding at this point), and btw it was a 2015 purchased in 2019 with less than 200 miles... smelled like a thousand empty Dasani bottles floating in that ocean and baking in the sun. Anyway. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to switch to automatic. So I call Honda. The guy says, is there a clutch on left side? I said of course. He said that’s not a DCT. And then he broke the news about the ABS too. So now, I decide I’m not going to send it to my bro because it’s like, “hey I want xyz”, and I’m supposed to be like “well, I’m cool spending the money, but here’s zyx cause that’s life, deal with it, you needed the governments help to learn how to beat me up...” AND I proceeded to blow up that sweet beautiful old ladies phone like she was my high school girlfriend that cheated on me again... she stopped responding. So, I put it for sale, and my pride kicked in and I bumped up the price tag to compensate for my time and the $400 uhaul I returned below E and wreaking like cigar smoke and dog. I got about a thousand “is it an automatic?”... and I stopped checking the ad, but I started riding it in the meantime... a lot. Like everyday. At first it was because Santa Monica decided to suspend the registration on my BMW X6, and we can’t seem to agree on whether or not I am going to pay $900 in parking tickets. And I took my other bike apart... because I’m new... and curious. So short story long. I love the thing. It’s rad. Not totally sold on the look though, I’m more into a traditional cruiser aesthetic. “Why look to the future when it’s all nice and safe and cozy in the past” is what I always say. So, My fellow CTX enthusiasts, I guess what I have been trying to say... the question I’ve been alluding to... the point that I am currently segue’ing into...

Anyone done any major body modifications... I can’t find any. Tear off the tank cover and drop on amother, or just go with the bare bones tank and yet smoothing it out? Anything with the headlight area? The rear fender? Anything I can risk total loss sinking my teeth into? Are we even allowed to talk about this stuff? Don’t take this down moderator... I Never expected to type this much. My time is valuable (find my ad for this bike... you’ll see).

And here is the picture I used in my ad on Facebook. My garage was a disaster so I found this picture on google. Same bike. Maybe. Can’t tell if there’s a clutch on this one, but you get the idea.

Ps... how do I get paid for this... do the moderators like send me a check? or...

I have purchased several motorcycles through ads in Cycle-trader and Craigs-list. Recently bought a 2017 Gold Wing. Can’t remember how many sellers either didn’t know what ABS was or incorrectly told me theirs had ABS..
It sure pays to verify those items you think you’re getting and on’t take anyone’s word for it. I asked one seller if his 2009 had ABS, he replied, “sure, they all do”.... (They don’t!)

First, no porn is haunted. It can however come back to haunt you.
Second, no royalties will be paid out.
Third, enjoyed the humor.
Fourth and final, I can only assume someone has done cosmetic changes and hopefully they will chime in.
P.S. Fifth, welcome to the forum!

Welcome!

That is some pretty funny sh*t. You should maybe consider doing stand up. You should definitely do your homework before buying anything over 100$ in the future.

I predict the look will grow on you. Besides, you don't want to look like everyone else, do you?

Welcome! Glad you're here!

I have the manual CTX700 as well, and really like it. It's been my main transportation to work and shopping errands since 2016. No major aesthetic changes, but a few utility changes. LED light was easy to pop in and adjust the aim. Floorboards and adjusting the shift lever to match.
I tested a DCT version of the Goldwing and I understand those who want that ease of use and precision shifting on demand know that scratches a particular itch. It also helps in slow traffic or jams where the DCT removes the need to use the clutch I guess. After 17000 miles (I know, that's not much) I'm still good with what I have.

Good luck getting the look you want.

Oh, yeah, riding, If you're serious about lacking skills, take your bike to an MSF Intermediate course. Great chance to practice in a safe environment. (Basic course requires you to use their smaller bikes, Intermediate starts basic enough at first.)

If you want to change the look, maybe try some paint. (Personally, I like the Repsol Honda look.) As for the headlight, I think someone on this forum found a Honda Grom unit on eBay. Use the search feature.

The check is in the mail.

I don't think id mess with body changes, unless you know a local company can could do plastic molding or maybe fiber glassing to customize. Would be expensive. We have a member Bob who did alot of body customization to his trike, which he has for sale so hopefully he'll chime in or PM him. I think your best bet is stick a pic of the bike in Photoshop, play with colors which can make it look pretty different, than use plastic dip and vinyl wrap to match it. If you don't like what you get, easy to change. You can also buy used fenders and parts on ebay and alter them anyway you want.

Welcome, enjoy, and soon you'll get over your little old ladies. Hopefully soon you'll be riding with with brother.

Your mention of vinyl wrap made my ears perk up. Have you used vinyl wrap on a bike and, if so, what product did you use and how did it come out?

I personally have only done some easy wraps. My front cowl, tank area. Several here have done the plastic dip. I bought std 3m carbon fiber off ebay. Using heat gun and moving slowly don't too hard. There are a lot of businesses that do it professionally out there, and they will do mock ups and know how to deal with some severe bends. You tube also have lots of how to's. You also mentioned cruisers and there looks. Daddy Dave had a lot of his parts chromed I believe, so with patience, time, and of course money there is a lot you can do, but don't expect it to look like a Road King, its a unique bike.

Welcome to the forum; too bad you didn't discover it earlier. Lots of different modification by folks here which you will discover as you browse. At the same time, you may find the right bike for your brother in the classified as most here have the DCT (without the clutch..) whereas I still have the manual version.

True abs is an option. It is often advertised on the front fender cover. At least on mine.

Wow what an experience I hate the nice old lady ripped you off. I did not see if you ever found the CTX700n DCT for your brother or if your still in the market for one. I just so happen to have a 2015 CTX700N DCT ABS for sale. 2154 miles Great bike and i am not an old lady so no scary flash backs. Let me know if you are still looking.

Yea, have learned a lot because of this experience. I probably should have known that the DCT didnt even have a clutch lever on the handlebar. I did not do my research.

thanks bud! yea I would really like to see some major modifications. I found some with a more traditional headlight, but not a lot of info on it. What I would really like is to0 change the tank something more cruiser like.

Yea, this bike has definately gotten me into riding more. I have picked up one or two more. At first, I thought I would want a DCT for myself when I started riding, but after a ferw months... I wouldnt do anything but manual. way more fun. although, I have honestly never driven an automatyic bike, but I dont pan to.
