Good Morning!

I picked up this 2014 CTX 700 in mint shape with 3200 miles on the odo for $2900 yesterday in Southern Wisconsin. This forum has already served as a valuable resource. I look forward to putting some miles on this machine!

I think alot of people gave up on the bike not knowing about the reset. I could be wrong but sometimes my bike acts up and a reset fixes everything. GOOD LUCK 👍
Are most of those issues due to DCT acting up? Or some electrical as well? My bike is a manual model. Curious what potential issues I should keep an eye out for.

Welcome

There should be no issues with the manual. I have a 2014 manual also and it runs like a champ. Here is what I did after picking up a 2014 with less than 2,000 miles:

1) siphon out all gas and replace with fresh non-ethanol fuel - later ran some Techron through the tank
2) Replace brake fluid
3) Replace coolant - cap is a pain to get off on the faired models and remember that there is a set screw on the cap that will need to be backed out
4) Replace oil and filter - Considered, but did not drop the oil pan to see if there was any sludge
5) Replace tires as the OEM tires were from 2013
6) Oil and adjust the chain
7) Go ride

The above is no more than a couple of hours of work.

Common modifications:
Seats (beadrider in my case, corbin/laam/airhawk for others)
Luggage (shad/givi)
Exhaust (custom/various short pipes)
Floorboards (must have in my opinion)
Electrical (headlight upgrade, aux lights, USB, horns)
Windshield (I put in a Givi, but still had to add a deflector)
Centerstand ( most use one from Japan or T-Rex)

There are a lot of articles on the board regarding the above farkles

Welcome. There are people here with over 137,000 miles on the DCT with no issues. There are no design flaws that I am aware of that affect every CTX manufactured, standard or DCT. If you take the second links maintenance log picture and increase the resolution, just basic regular maintenance will get the bike to 1000,000 miles. Add in the over 60 smiles per gallon and this is one of the cheapest to operate most reliable full sized highway capable motorcycles out there.

Wow, what a great price! Welcome to the forum. I'm in Madison, so likely not more than an hour or two away. Maybe once the roads cease being covered with sand, salt, and occasional snow, we can meet up somewhere. My wife also rides, and has a Vulcan 650S. I have had absolutely zero problems with my CTX (NOS in '17, 25k miles) and love it. I also have a '21 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.

Very nice looking bike! I live in Germantown, so not too far. Let’s plan on connecting once the weather clears! Looks like we are bracing for one more weather event tomorrow.

Thanks for responding. Definitely worth the drive. I check Marketplace and Craigsllst at least once every day but haven't been as lucky as you. The search continues. Good luck with it.
Try Searchtempest.com it searches MULTIPLE Craigslist cities at the same time. You select a “search parameter” by miles from you and it looks up multiple Craigslist cities, eBay and Marketplace ads at the same time.
Searchtempest.com

Searchtempest results for eBay and especially Marketplace search results can show nothing is out there when indeed there are, sometimes it cannot find the forest for the trees in the way.. but it gives great results for Craigslist! (I think eBay and Marketplace may try to block their access to ads.)

Searching CycleTrader.com is another option, you can select Manufacturer, Model, Sub-model, new or used and you can select by state.
(Cycle Trader works best with your phone flipped to horizontal for some search features. In Vertical it’s not as friendly.)

When you select “CTX”, you get both the CTX1300’s and the CTX700 models, you need to select the “trim” option to trim away the models you don’t want.

Thanks for the advice. I've been a fan of SearchTempest for quite a few years now and agree that, at times, it appears to have a problem viewing the forest because of the trees. Fwiw, I've been corresponding with a seller in Ohio who has a nice DCT equipped N but I'm not too crazy about the distance between us and, now that I've read another member's negative comments about the DCT, I'm thinking that, perhaps, I should be going with a manual. Decisions decisions.

Lots of dealers offer test rides on used motorcycles, perhaps you can find one of each locally and take a test ride. (Or sweet talk them into an overnight loan, you never hear yes unless you ask!)
