I haven't really washed mine since I bought it last March but I do clean the windshield. I do need to wash it but I keep it in the Garage and it is pretty clean believe it or not. That's probably why I haven't washed it yet, it is pretty clean. But we have been in drought conditions for a long time now and it just doesn't rain that much here.
When my husband was in a car accident he used my car for a month and a half while his was getting repaired. I commuted on the bike daily, and it rained at least twice a week for those six weeks, boooo so it got two baths! :p The water spots drove me nuts, haha.

Clean after every ride, detail once a month.
I don't ride in town-country 2 lane roads and state highways.
We have bugs 12 months (maybe 4-5 days in the winter when you don't
hit some). Summer is crazy and we have love bugs in May and Sept.
Some days no one rides they are so thick. They need to be gotten off or they will etch the paint.
I use "Original Bike Spirits, Spray Cleaner & Polish"-most motorcycle shops carry it (around here anyway). It is great for all paint (not flat) and windshields too. You can spray and rub off with a soft cloth (microfiber , old diapers are the best) or you can spray, wipe it around and let it dry to a haze, then buff it off.
I like a clean bike and I actually enjoy getting it that way and ready for the next ride-to repeat the process.

+1 on Original Bike Spirits spray cleaner and polish. Many dealers I'm familiar with use it to clean the show room bikes for detailing purposes. I carry a can with me during love bug season.
I have enough in the house to keep clean. Cerberus drools everywhere. I'll let Hermes do the detailing.
I wipe down the swing arm, clean the seat and fuselage with armor all, clean the break rotors, use chrome cleaner on the muffler. This happens about once a week or whenever it occurs to me do it, sometimes at night when I can't sleep.

Periodically I clean the chain guard as well.

I don't wash it much, mostly due to living in apartment where water spigots and such are a rarity. When I can, I use a high pressure air hose to blast the dirt off the underside of the bike (avoiding the air filter of course).

I wipe down the windscreen and mirrors regularly. (Some variation of Rain-x 2 in 1)

I don't touch the battery because it never sits idle long enough for the battery to need charging. :D
Clean the bugs off after every ride and dust occasionally using Meguiarsultimate detailer spray.

I have to drive a 1/2 mile, on a dirt road. Wash it and go in and out of this road once and can't tell the difference. I wait till the gas mileage drops some and wash the dust and sand off till next time. I use the dust and sand to plug holes, in the road. Don't want to waist anything.
This might be an exaggeration but you get the idea. The bike does everything, including dump runs and general errands.
I clean it every time I'm caught riding in the rain! Actually been thinking about really keeping this bike clean but so far still in the thinking stage.
Wait, you're supposed to clean your motorcycle???
