I would post a link to the shield to see if anyone has tried to install it. There are several problems when going this route. As you've already discovered, the handle bars have different diameters depending on location. They also taper in some area. The DCT controls will cause fits when attempting to mount to the handlebar. Also, many have found the hardware is either too long or too short requiring alteration or purchasing new hardware. Anything can be made to fit but the end result may not be worth the journey. This is one time I would advise trying to stick with a shield system specifically designed for the CTX.

 

It would be best to plan to fit for a 1" bar like you want to do. You can fill room but, you cannot increase the size. You can fill room at the clamps with rubber cut from an inner tube or from another source if needed. There are many, many different universal sheilds that can work. Order one you like and go from there. All universal ones will need some tweaking for your personal fit.

 

It has been my observation that windscreens mounted to the handlebars tend to make the bike more reactive to crosswind action/buffeting. I would suggest that you use a chassis mounted windscreen the bike designed for the CTX 700.

 

Mmmmmmm. Ponydrvr, isn't the handlebars attached to the chasis? I don't see the difference where it is attached on the CTX. I used one for the first couple weeks on my fairing model and there was no difference in feel. the bars are 1 1/8" at the clamp, and 7/8 at the grips. In between it tapers. that is the only issue using clamps. The clamp is tight on one side and loose on the other because of the taper. You can make it work, I did, but you have to shim it with "taper" in mind. Wallacem in Ga

 

Ponydryvr is referring to a shield that doesn't pivot or swing with the fork assembly similar to the fairing model. Unfortunately, the naked model requires a shield to be attached to the fork assembly.

 

That's correct jfc. I missed the fact that you have a naked model with limited mounting options. I'll read more carefully before my next post.

Quietguy that windscreen looks similar to the one I had lying around that I tried on my CTX. The 1" hardware will work for mounting it but, mine was 15" high and buffeted the air so bad I took it off. I bought a 20" Madstad shortly afterwards, and it was much better. I'm 5'9" and I kinda even wish I got the next taller size.

 

About Slipstreamer. I had one on my Honda Magna. It developed what looled like a 1000 cracks inside the plastic. Looked bad.
