Hi all, from B.C.
Just picked up a 2014 CTX700 and I'm hearing different things about what fuel to use . Some say supreme and some say just regular is fine. Thoughts?

87 octane (91 RON in Canada?) regular unleaded. No benefit to using anything else.

That is a question that has been hammered out on this forum many times.
I am truly old school rider, having gotten my first bike in 1972. I have always used Premium gas. So, as a matter of practice, I got my CTX700 and have filled them with Premium. But several members here say their bikes run just fine on regular. It is an old argument. I do believe the new technology of this CTX allows it to run fine on regular. The manual even states that is all you need.
But, having started it on Premium I hesitate to change. Just old habits, I guess.
From what I have read, I think you will be fine with regular.
Read what the other members will tell you, also.
I'm sure you have opened a popular discussion.
Oh, and welcome!

Thanks @rossmcgrath That's what I thought as well, but the seller states he used supreme, yet his last oil change was over a year ago..... :cautious:

Welcome!(y) Sounds like you are on top of good maintenance practices. Note that Honda appropriately warns against any fuel with more than 10% alcohol, "E-10"- (owners manual), (I don't know how common ethanol is, up north).

Perhaps you might post more in new member...Ex; DCT, miles, accessories, type of riding enjoyed, etc. Best Wishes!:)

As someone who once commuted, and now goes on day-long touring rides, I can say the CTX700 rides great on unleaded regular gas (and regular maintenance). It doesn't need premium at all, and you get great mileage on regular gas too. Save your money for rest stops.

There are valid points on both sides of the argument. Will your CTX run on regular, yes. Keep in mind the amount of ethanol you are getting in regular. In BC where I also live most stations have 10% ethanol in regular gas while some (but not all) will have 0% ethanol in premium gas depending on where you fill up. There are side effects to using ethanol in your fuel system that the average person doesn't know about or care about for that matter. One of the big ones is if the bike sits for long periods of time, like winter. You won't have to worry about those side effects if you use premium fuel. Now if you are trying to save every penny at the pumps then use regular. If you want added piece of mind then use premium. Keep in mind these bikes are incredibly good on fuel so you are already saving compared to other bikes in the same engine size. For me living in BC I use premium in my CTX. It also works great at all altitudes. If you do go with the regular then I would suggest storing it for the winter with a tank full of premium for added protection. Happy riding!

Staying away from ethanol whenever possible. I like to use a full tank of good premium at least once a month. Not sure if that helps at all, but it makes me feel good knowing I am flushing the engine on a regular basis.

Nobody is saying you need to put premium in a CTX because it needs high octane. Premium fuel with "No" ethanol is the fuel of choice when storing the bike. The bike will run fine on any grade of fuel at the pumps.

That was in reference to the premium fuel with no ethanol.
Hey, Sunflower, I told you there would be many opinions on the subject.
You have opened up this discussion again!!

Welcome to the CTX world. I've been loving my '14 manual CTX for five years now and never had any problems with running regular. In the winter I add a fuel stablizer to each tankful, but I still get out and ride at least once or twice a month through to Spring.

Interestingly enough I have never bothered with stabilizer in my Honda mower and it cranks right up each Spring. It does take a second try the first time out.
