If its so bad, all on its own, why are ordinary flu deaths (due to complications) being passed off as covid deaths? Hospital induced pneumonia deaths for instance. Health workers in many instances are complaining they have been told to label a death as a covid death when it is obviously a death compromised by many other factors. Looks to me like there is a definite agenda to all this.Comparing covid 19 with the flu is done by people who don't have an understanding of the differences. I for one agree. In this regard and in many others, a bit of advice i heard many many years ago stands out now: "nothing is as it seems". And i might add, politics manipulates everything to its own ends.
...all true. We here in Alberta (the oil province) have been bled dry by Ottawa/Quebec for decades. And now that Trudeau is doing his globalist thing, our gas/oil industries have been all but shut down, thousands are out of work and Canada buys energy from the middle east.
...back to normal? That is not an option. The goal is to get you used to anything but normal. The "new normal" is strict socialist control of everyone. Up here in castro's Canada there is already talk about limiting if not completely removing private property. Trudeau wants to accomplish that by 2030. At the moment, covid shutdowns are being used to crash the economy. Socialists (read Communists) need to start with a flat playing field, they cannot deal with competition or dissention. The mask is posited as your outward sign of where you stand... which is why so many refuse to wear it.

In other threads, it was posted by some that in some situations in the US, there were financial advantages that resulted in such classifications. I am not aware of any such situations in Canada and several people I know are very closely involved with the health care system and the hospitals. Very different set ups. What sort of agenda do you see?

sorry, but with all due respect that is bullshit.
It appears to me, at least at this point in time, that "they" want to keep the numbers high. Its long been known you can prove almost anything with statistics. Why would they want high covid numbers? Politically there is no end of reasons. For one thing, it allows them to posit good reasons for shutdowns. Why would they want shut downs? What better way to reduce capitalism, cripple the economy and put everyone under control (inevitably) of Big Government. Considering how long this has been going on, the measures they have used to control it, the evidence that this flu is barely any worse than several bad flus of recent years, and the continued threats as to how much longer it will go on (ie: new strains)... and how it all coincides with globalism and the rise of neo-marxist activities, well....i hate to say it but maybe Orwell was right. Up here in Canada we have seen a half-crazy self avowed Castro and China lover (our PM) vow to take us there. The US (you might say Trump) was all that was in the way of The Dems getting to where we are already. Now that they have, the sky's the limit for them.
By the way, it would be nice to be wrong about this. But its a position i will hold for the time being.
We had a case in our town where one overly obese man in his 60's was in the hospital for a period of time with diabetes. They sent him home but he returned within the week. He had pneumonia and as a result died within a couple of days. He was classed as dieing from covid. Another thing I have noticed is that in a normal year we have thousands in nursing homes that die from the flue. Surprisingly, I have not read of one case of a flue death but many in the nursing homes seem to be dieing from the covid. Another thing I read today is that our federal government is starting to vaccinate prisoners, even the ones that are there for life. Law abiding seniors and patients in nursing homes come after the jail birds. People are up in arms about it but our federal government decided the prisoners are at risk because they can't isolate. What about nursing home residents. A simple solution would be to put prisoners in a room by themselves like NH residents. We have a case where an

In keeping with the "agenda" theory, we get our information from the mainstream media and internet social media, all owned and controlled by Left wing politics. So they control info so tightly we simply cannot come to any easy conclusion, truth wise. For many many years we have had countless thousands of deaths each year of people in a situation of either age and the flu, or co-morbidities and flu. As well, hospital deaths from pneumonia (contracted in hospital as well as without) have been a leading cause of deaths. Now, all of a sudden they have a flu that, contrary to evidence, is so bad it requires the nation, even the world to shut down to a very dangerous point. Well, yeah, they can tell us anything.
The info given us about the procedures of introducing a vaccine are curious in the extreme.
We've been taking flu shots for years. No big deal. Now there is all this hype about how carefully the vaccine has to be handles. Kept, for instance, at what, something like -75d. And you need maybe two or three or more shots. Well, covid or no, this virus is related to many of the older common flu/cold virus's. And there was none of that nonsense going on back then in regard to dishing out the prophylactic.
I have friends & relatives in the Philippines where i often go in the winter. They tell me that they will be getting the China vaccine, and that their country is now testing it on their armed forces personnel. If its a flu vaccine, why are they all so cautious? Which lends itself to a new conspiracy theory that i don't even want to poke at.
But i will say that every aspect of this flu and its treatment is carefully orchestrated by politics, and i mean a global political agenda, and we are not intended to have a clue (as normal) as to what is really going on.
I had another thought I forgot to mention. It is happening in my part of the country every day. People that want to winter in the southern states have found a novel way of skirting the border restrictions. They drive their motorhome, trailer or car to Niagara, have it loaded on a transport, and ship it across the border. They jump in a helicopter and fly across the river to Buffalo and pick up thier vehicle. Apparently there are companies set up across Canada that have been set up to do this kind of work. So much for closed borders. Could never figure out why I cannot ride my bike into the US,but I can fly nearly anywhere.

Not that i'd be doing that anyway, at my age i can't afford a travel health care plan. Going to the Philippines is different. There, minor medical costs are very low. But alas, i'm trapped here this winter. If i'm to get through the next few frigid months, covid or no covid, it will have to be by dreaming about a new motorcycle in the spring. Could be an NC750X. Don't know yet. Or, maybe by then, Castro's son will have decreed that we have to rent, not buy.

1) TIP, you are correct, "in a normal year". This is anything but normal. As per infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC), there is typically about 12,000 cases and 3500 death from the flu (Influenza Resources | IPAC Canada ). With the current covid pandemic, there was higher than normal vaccinations, but more importantly, general hand hygiene and other measures significantly reduced the transmission. This is not just in Canada, but in places like Australia and New Zealand who get it before we do. 2) Our federal government is taking advantage of this global infection to justify trying to remake the world in their own warped image. Infections in prisons? Fine, educate them about safe principles, give them masks and vaccinate the guards and others that need to work with them as part of the initial distribution. Similarly, from my perspective, if you vaccinate the people who work in long term care facilities, with lock downs, you protect the residents. Focus on direct front care workers in medical and health centres, then deal with the vulnerable population. We also have some that are recommending using the vaccines in manners in which they were not designed, nor tested: I disagree with that, but these are political considerations. Finally, if they are going to lock things down, then they need to have significant sanctions against those who violate those recommendation that lead to further spread. We have lost too many people and too many businesses to allow for non compliance. My opinion, in any case.
...always glad to hear someone describe their current point of view as an opinion. I like the freedom of being able to change my mind as well as use it. We just get so little solid information. What is provided for us is prescribed for us (the Great Unwashed), and its always with a high degree of intended manipulation.
With the political polarization that is going on, something i see here in regard to the virus, is taking a nasty turn. That being: Liberals have become the mask wearers and Conservatives the no-maskers. This is just stupid, but there it is. Of course, if the neo-marxists are on a roll now as they appear to be, they need to know who is on board with them and who isn't, and deal with them appropriately, as marxists have always done. They need a way to easily identify and weed out dissenters. How easy that is once we line up with or without masks.
Or maybe they'll say we can go without our masks but we need to wear yellow arm bands. Don't laugh at that because i've been seeing more and more facebook posts in which the mask wearers are getting really uptight about non mask wearers and ruminating on severe ways of dealing with them. Canada has a lot of Gulagy spots, so that could be a future choice.
We all have our opinions on the efficacy of masks. Mine, at the moment, is that they do little good. But hey, if they do any good, even if they are 1% effective, AND if the flu is really a nasty thing (as may eventually be disclosed, but not now), then i want that 1%. So i wear my mask. Even though i am not anywhere near politically inclined to that end of the spectrum.
No big deal for me as i've been wearing a mask when travelling and in Asia for many, many years. Just a personal decision. It may not even begin to filter out a virus, but it will to some extent stop droplet transmission (on which resides the virus) in situations of close proximity. I feel much better on a plane or in an airport, or for that matter an Asian mall, if i'm wearing a mask. And so have millions of others for many many years. So i will wear a mask, even probably when "covid" goes away, but i don't want to be labeled a g*d damn commie in the meantime.

Hindsite is wonderful. I worked with people who recognize people will make mistakes: just don't make the same one twice.. learn from them. Too many people in control federally and provincially haven't. I think most of our premiers have had good intentions, but were too lax with people who violated the rules, especially cabinet members. If Kenny and Ford could have a "do-over" they would have laid down the law with their ministers who set bad examples causing individual citizens to ignore recommendations too. Trudeau has been a pompous arrogant sanctimonious dramatist who gave away 16 tons of N95 masks and other PPE; provincial governments destroyed masks that exceeded their "best before" date, whereas not too many years ago, they did not even have such a adate. Guess what, they still worked. Some elastics did not, but the masks did. Where did our pandemic planning go? SARS that devastated Toronto was not that long ago (one of my cousins was a nurse at North York General and was infected by SARS) but we were not ready. Vaccines are starting to arrive, but it will be the fall, at the earliest, before significant numbers are vaccinated. We ain't out of the woods yet. Stay safe.
