After 20 years and 6 bikes I finally kept one long enough to hit the triple digit number on the odometer. Took me a little longer than some of you that have already hit this milestone, but every mile was a smile, every ride was as wonderful as the one before it. I only ride for pleasure, so with the exception of one yearly ride vacation all the miles were racked up on our weekly Saturday and Sunday rides exploring the back roads of Florida, with a couple three day Georgia weekends thrown in for fun.

I love the bike and do not see a new bike in my future as long as this one holds out. 200,000 I am coming after you!

No mechanical problems at all. Transmission is rock solid. I ride in manual mode as I like to pick my shifting points; I hated the bike shifting on me in the middle of a corner. When Thumper did the valve check at 100,720 miles this week (#3) only two exhaust valves, one on each cylinder, were a little tight. Not bad IMHO.

Along those lines I am posting this mostly so that I can publicly praise and say a heartfelt Thank You to my mechanic Thumper (he also happens to be my wing-man, soul-mate, best friend and husband) for all the work he does to keep me in the wind. All total: 25 oil changes, 8 sets of tires, 5 chains, 4 sprockets, 2 fork oil changes, 2 valve adjustments, 2 radiator fluid changes, 2 air cleaners, 2 sets spark plugs, 1 rear shock, and 1 rear rotor. Along the way there were brakes and brake fluid changes, a windshield change, headlights, running lights, etc. I am so appreciative.

Thanks too for all the friends I have met while riding and reading this forum. There is a wealth of information, many incredible photographs and interesting stories here. I do not post much, but I read and there is always something to learn here; a technical point or a place I wanna ride to. So I raise my helmet to all of you who have contributed to my riding experience these last 5 years.

In closing I would also like to say thanks to Honda for putting this bike on the market and I hold hope out that they will have something equally as wonderful when I am ready to start fresh with an odometer at 0.0 once again.

howdy, i'll second the congrats. it's a lot of miles on one machine. i'm the kind where when the ashtray gets full, i like to get rid of it and get something else . i've put on many hindred thousand but on lots of bikes since my first which was a 250 2-stroke yamaha road bike that you had to mix fuel and oil befor putting it in the tank. i think it was a 1964 model but it's been a long time ago. anyhoo , ive put on about 22,000 on this ctx-dct which says something because i've only averaged 8,000 miles each on my last six.
thanks for posting the milestone. i do notice lots of tires you've gone through. i'm on my second set and they are reasonably good yet so i'm getting moe miles per set. i got 18,000 miles on my front tire before it started looking frazzled.

Mags,

Congrats to you, Thumper, and your bike. Looking forward to seeing the FL crew in January. I'll be staying in Orlando, and am going to schedule a trip over to Tarpon Springs to see Bob, Mike, and Dan. Hope that you and Thumper can join us this year.

Take your bike to the FLMM get together, at the Ace Café. Most of the other folks there haven't gotten 100lk in all the bikes they've owned.

All the best,

Dave

howdy, i assume that the question of tire kind above was for mine. they were the original tires. i drive pretty conservatively which is one reason my tires last quite a few miles. my first rear lasted about 13,000. now i have the pr4 michelin on it and expect to get as far or more on them. driving easy has also allowed my chain and sprockets to have lasted this long with no sign of wear yet. however, i haven't taken the front sprocket guard off to see how it's doing. i do hear some suspicious sounds from there so need to do some checking.
all the best to ya. i wasn't meaning to sound superior , was just congratulating and a quick mention that that seems like a lot of tire though i understand the florida roads to cause some extra wear.

You went through way to many tires! Either you change prematurely, you use bad tires or you are very rough on them or a combination of the three.

Oil changes could have been reduced 50% as well.
OK now that I have your attention - it was actually 8 tire changes. First couple of changes can be attributed to trying to find a tire I really liked. Then it came down to my travels. No matter the wear, when we prepare for our summer journey the tires are changed cuz I just don't want to waste precious road time for a tire change in some unknown city. Started out with Avon's and gravitated to Michelin PR 4 and now 5's.

And the oil changes are done every 3-4 thousand miles. Kinda old school but I to keep a watchful eye on how the internals are doing and there is no better way than to take a look at your oil and spark plugs as well. Kind of like taking your temp to see if you are ill. No matter what, it doesn't hurt, may help.

Thanks for all the input, but no more worries - I don't actually EAT tires, just don't type that well.

Happy Trails

Yaaaas! Congratulations on hitting the 100K mark!

All you FL-based riders: I have a cousin with a winter home in Largo, not far from St Pete Beach. When I am planning a trip to FL, I'll post it here and hopefully find some other CTX700 riders!
