History
This is a great bike. I bought it last year. My second son in law wanted to join me and My first son in law in out motorcycle hobby. I got this one for 725 bucks and it was almost perfect. I put new tires, new battery on it and cleaned the carbs. It did not take much. It runs perfectly. He doesn't ride it much but he feels like he belongs. I do have a 1981 920 and a 1983 750 Midnight Virago so when there is an event i try to make it with both of the boys and they ride the 500 and 750.
This bike is small and compact, with a cool seat design. The YICS was used from 81 to 86. redesigned heads a cool induction system. I don't know if it makes a difference, but the early 80's was a great time for trying new technologies. Fun bike.

Modifications
Drivetrain
I have mounted Pirelli Sport Demons. Wheels are stock beautiful mag wheels that Yamaha used on most all their bikes in this period. They look great.
And these Sport Demons are a nice sticky tire, still made in the weird sizes of this period. They still make a 19" 3.25" front tire i use on that '81 920 that i have.

Interior
5 speed with shaft drive. well done. by this year Yamaha had all the kinks out of their shaft drives.
Exterior
all standard with an added Slipstreamer windshield. I bout it this way and it seems to fit. I like it
Audio
Completely stock.
