Gear Position Indicator

I have a 2014 CTX 700N naked bike.
I stumbled across a company that sells a gear position indicator that mounts on the handle bar. But wasn't excited about it.
Then I found a company that you send them your speedo cluster and they miraculously install a gear position indicator inside the cluster right of the high beam indicator.
I wonder if anyone has taken their speed cluster apart and also if having my speed cluster changed if there is anything else needs to be done to have the gear position show up on the cluster.
Does anyone have any input with having done anything like this.

Thanks

The gear position indicator is already there on both of my DCT's... I assume you do not have a DCT?

I've never heard of anyone doing this to their cluster. At least not on the forum. There are plenty of threads on accessory gear indicators. Everything from $30 Chinese knockoffs to $100+ over priced ones. Just makesureit plugs into the DLC connector.

Honda figures the guy who manually shifts will know what gear he's in,
the automatic DCT guys would have no idea!

Iím so paranoid at stoplights, people must think Iím keeping time to music with my foot.... what Iím really doing is checking and re-checking if Iím in first gear or not......

The DCT gets the indicator due to the ability to manually shift back and forth, in and out of automatic mode. The indicator tells a lot more than just what gear your in. It tells us what mode we're in, whether in neutral or not, and whether there is an error with the system.

Now for a question being I don't have a DCT. If you have it in the manual mode and lets say you are in 3rd and come to a stop without downshifting will it remain in 3rd or not? Never have ridden one.
