Chain lubrication

Is this necessary after every second ride?
I went to look at a CTX700 yesterday and the owner told me it was necessary to lube the chain after EVERY second ride. No matter how long or short. This seemed kind of excessive/obsessive to me but what do I know? Hence, the question...

Check your manual. I think it says every 500 miles.

I never do it. I just adjust it and change it as needed. Seems to last just as long either way.

Interesting lab test on lubes...

I think @SuperSneakySteve will agree with the point of never lubing the chain. ( I don't. I use a Tutoro auto oiler with gear oil).

Anyway … add this to the unending conversations and threads about chain lube.

Garage
I thought it was extended to 3000 -5000 miles with the new dry lubes.

Search and you'll see a ton of threads on this. Lubing frequency pretty much boils down to:
1) Type of weather conditions you ride in
2) Road conditions (paved or dirt/dusty)

3) How hard you ride (this affects chain tension as well)
4) How many miles you ride (pleasure/commuting)
5) How anal you are about maintenance or chain life

Manuals are not always right, they are generalizations to protect manufacturer and product.

To each there own., and do what works for you and your machine.

I watched F9's video the other day, and I've been ever since regretting buying a can of cleaner, a can of chain lubricant, and a can of chain wax when I already had two cans of WD-40.

I have the tutoro oiler. 19k on the bike and the chain looks like new, no real wear. So that's really good. Cleaned it once at about 8k,probably do another just before putting it away.

Having said that, any recommendations for an oil that will flow through the tutoro that I can get here in the states? From England it is much expensive mainly for shipping. That's dumb, but it is what it is. So any alternative would be most helpful. Thanks!!
