New CTX700 Search

Went to the local Honda dealer yesterday and told him to find me a new CTX700D DCT ABS.
He checked his network and ONLY FOUND ONE. At least that is what he told me. It is, of course, a 2018. But it does have a $1000 rebate so the price is OK.

I am buying it.

"More to follow"

Are you one of the preppers, who's stockpiling them for the upcoming societal collapse? Or, do you think that once everyone realizes that the model has been discontinued, you'll be able to offer them as "Rare, Collectors Models" and get a premium price?

Well here is the story.
I traded my 2016 DCT last year for a HD Heritage Classic. Big mistake. Got a fair deal, but I have not been impressed with the new HD M8 engine. I had two problems with the HD within 1500 miles.
Today I had the dealer haul it to the shop for a fuel leak problem. Then I asked them to buy it back. They did. Got basically trade in value.
A couple of weeks ago my better half picked up a real nice CTX700 DCT used. That is her ride.
I decided I wanted my DCT back, so the dealer ordered today. As I said, they are real hard to find. But I snagged this one.
Sad to see all the issues with the new Harleys. I think HD is on the downhill slide as a company.

I got a my 2018 dct for 6977.00 + TT&T & a fair trade on my '09 V-Strom. Had it in hand in 5 business days.
Check with a "Honda Power Sports" dealer (search online). All they sell is Honda, for doing that they get a better dealer price.

I have seen some very low mileage 2015/16 700d models like you are searching for in the 4000-4500$ price range. Less than 1500 miles. Black, blue, maroon. If I could find me a white model with the fairing in excellent condition I might pick up another. Lol

There's something to be said for having a vehicle that starts every time, runs with minimal maintenance, and doesn't break down very often. Even if it's not an enthusiastic barn burner. That's why all our cars and SUV's are either Honda or Toyota.

I'd really love to see H-D actually make something that compares to these machines in quality. I thought the M-8's were just the first step towards that, but it's sad to hear that the problems continue. I'm kinda' hoping that the new liquid cooled 975 and 1250 will turn that around. We'll see.

BTW - I rented a few Heritage Softails from Club Eaglerider on business trips this year. The engines were much smoother than the old engines, and the bikes rode smoothly too. That new chassis and suspension is a great improvement over the old models.

Had to chime in when I see Harley, got 2 of them. Anyway, just purchased 2016 CTX700 DCT (new, 7 miles) in Dallas for 7350.00 OTD, best I could find in Texas. Needed 2nd bike for wife that would fit in toy hauler with HD. U-haul, 4 1/2 hours away, quit an adventure to get. Had to purchase canyon dancer at dealer, no other way to tie down without rubbing something.

Joined forum before purchase to see owner comments. Great forum!

Honda quality, it has repetation as the best. Yesterday at 50 miles on the bike, we were set to go on group ride at HD dealership. We ran into a couple of the problems reported on this forum. KSU, the CTX would not go into drive. Tried everything in manual and online I could find. Called Geico and they had Tow truck set up, 90 min estimate. While waiting looked for fix online (calling Honda service at couple of dealers was waste of time). After about 1 hour tried messing with throttle, read about RPM must be in correct range. She started working, not sure why, throttle? or the auto re-progam you read about?

Did our own little ride, 75 miles on bike, noticed at home the oil under drain tube with gas smell. Will keep eye out to see what this is.

HD - Wife tryed the Heritage softail first, great bike, fun to ride. Too heavy for her for sure, but she wanted to have a HD, hence the trike we now own. No option for light HD, except Street lineup, would not buy these.

I hope the CTX holds together without issue, because we really like it. DCT is great, maybe because I am getting older.

I have owned six Harleys. The new Softails are a great improvement on ride, handling, etc. The engine is may be smoother, but not that significant in my opinion. However, the two problems I had within 1500 miles were not giving me the warm and fuzzy especially with reports of many other problems with the M8 like the sumping. It is a real problem.

Also, I remember the AMF HD days because I was a final QC roller rider for HD. We know about those days. HD went thru the ownership change and fixed many QC issues. I think HD is in trouble as a business and they are cutting corners. Also, if you know anybody who will buy their $30,000 electric bike, let me know.

I am pretty sure Honda will be in business for a while but not sure how long HD will last. I should be able to pick up the new DCT bike in a week.
