MC oil info

Some motorcycle oil info from "Motorcycle Consumer News" mag. June 2019; tech writer; Kevin O'Shaughnessy
It's too long for me to type it all, it's techie, gets into chemical properties & how they work......I'll just give the hi lights.
Subject: Japanese Automotive Standards (JASO) MA / motorcycle oil.

These are safe for; wet clutch (friction/grip requirements); flat tappet cams (wiping load) ; integrated transmission (gear load)

NOTE :: the letter codes; "T4"; "T6" & "4T" make it MC oil on brands listed below.
JASO MA rated (safe for motorcycles w/ wet clutch) Same "brand name" with different letter codes are NOT JASO MA rated.

Shell Rotella "T4" (heavy duty diesel) 15w-40; MA-yes; MA2-yes

Shell Rotella "T6" full synthetic (diesel) 5w-40; MA-yes; MA2-yes

Mobil 1 4T (motorcycle) all viscosities MA-yes; MA2-yes (note; V-twin non-wet clutch MA - NO; MA2 - NO)

Other JASO MA / motorcycle oils mentioned rated JASO MA "okay," Yamalube; BMW; AMSOIL; etc. oils with JASO MA rating on label.
For me personally, I've been using AMSOIL products since 1988, in "everything" I own. I've never had a oil related issue.

Motorcycle Consumer News has been around for 50 years. They do not have any ads ( zero, zip, none) making it a bit more costly. BUT they are not beholding to anybody and print their test findings, good, bad, or indifferent.

I always bought brand name synthetic, any known brand, that was on sale. I thought I would never say this about oil, since they are all similar, but I will say it. Since I tried Motul 7100 on 3 BIKES within maybe 3 week’s span, and ALL 3 saw an actual drop in the temp gauge and fantastic shifting, again, all verified within 3 weeks on 3 different bikes, I’m not going to anyone else.

MC oils need "certain additives" to be JASO MA rated, so they can protect your clutches & other noted parts.....Check the label for specs. just to make sure you're okay.

Does the Motul 8100 carry a JASO MA rating? MA2? I didn't see it referenced in the limited specs I could find.

Unless I am missing something, It appears Motul 8100 is an automobile oil. I would not use it in any motorcycle.

You are correct, and it should have been 7100 (!)

I screwed up, it is Motul 7100. And it absolutely does carry and exceed all specs.
